V Praze se správně rozhodli, že nový výrobní program by měl přijít pod novou značkou. Kdo navrhnul, spojit první dvě písmena jmen Janeček a Wanderer do slova JAWA, měl šťastný nápad. Vznikla jednoduchá, lehce srozumitelná a vyslovitelná obchodní značka. 17. srpna 1929, v půl jedenácté dopoledne (u přihlášky je také uveden čas) dostala Zbrojovka Dipl. Ing. F. Janečka novou ochrannou značku, zapsanou na tehdejší patentním úřadě pod číslem 37 525/Praha.
Ochranná známka byla zapsána dříve, než došlo k prvnímu veřejnému předvedení motocyklu. Premiéra se konala na pražském podzimním autosalóně. Ještě před zahájením (9. října) nechal Janeček registrovat ochrannou známku také u světové organizace pro duševní vlastnictví v Ženevě.
Na prvních motocyklech Jawa 500 se objevila tato nechráněná,ručně malovaná značka.

Ochranná známka JAWA v oválu, jak ji dnes známe, spatřila světlo světa o dva roky později. Vyskytla se na palivové nádrži třetí a poslední série JAWA OHV. V oválu byl nápis JAWA, uprostřed v dolní části byly iniciály Františka Janečka. Od těchto iniciál vedli vlevo a vpravo šestice paprsků. Tato značka byla registrována 31. března 1936 pod číslem 56 772/Praha. Kdo byl autorem se dnes již nedá zjistit.
Tato značka používá od roku 1930 s iniciály zakladatele "FJ"

Po znárodnění byli iniciály "FJ" nahrazeny mezikružím. Také dochází ke změně počtu paprsků na pět.

1948 přišla do výroby první série třistapadesátky ve stejném rámu jako dvěstěpadesátka s odpružením zadního kola. Nejprve přišly tyto motocykly na trh pod značkou Jawa-Ogar, která pařila třetímu největšímu československému předválečnému výrobci motocyklů. Roku 1948 byla tato pražská továrna se sídlem v Praze-Strašnici včleněna do firmy Jawa. Jawa pak nechala ochrannou známku Ogar patentovat.
V duchu znárodňovacího procesu se na Jawy 350 používal znak OGAR.

Dle jistých poúnorových rozhodnutí bylo ustanoveno, že má jít do výrobního programu tzv. Národní neboli Jednotná řada. Sloučením značek Jawa a ČZ vzniklo spojení Jawa-ČZ. Jak již název napovídá, jednalo se o řadu stejného vzhledu, která se lišila v podstatě pouze motory. Motocykly byly osazeny motory o objemu 125, 150 (později 175),
V roce 1954 bylo pro motocykly tzv. Národní řady, kde bylo využíváno společenské značky při které ČZ zaujímá místo v mezikruží,které bylo dočasné. Vzhledem k odporu patriotů ze strany obou výrobců se později vrací každý ke své značce.
